Visiting La Compañía Church

La Compañia

The church, and its rich internal ornamentation, fully covered with gold leaf, is one of the city's major tourist attractions and an invaluable heritage

The San Ignacio de Loyola church and convent of La Compañía de Jesús de Quito, is a Catholic clerical complex located in the Historic Center of the city of Quito DM, capital of Ecuador, on the corner formed by García Moreno and Sucre streets. The frontage of its main temple, carved entirely in volcanic stone, is considered one of the most important expressions of Baroque architecture in the American continent and in the world.

Avoid necklines and provocative dresses; avoid jeans, tight pants, shorts, t-shirts.

Keep the phone (mobile) off. Never use it in church.

Cross yourself with holy water upon entering. It reminds us of our baptism and blots out venial sins.
